Dorothy (Dubicki) Mikalauskas, 86, of Vernon, beloved wife of 61 years to the late Joseph A. Mikalauskas, died peacefully Thursday, (September 7, 2006) at home. Born in Gardner, MA, she is the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Bochenek) Dubicki and has lived in Vernon for the past 26 years, previously residing in New Britain. She retired in 1982 from Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford after many years of service. Dorothy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved traveling, watching UCONN Women's basketball, and many other sports. Besides her beloved son, Kenneth E. Mikalauskas of Vernon, she is survived by three grandchildren, Dawn (Everett) Pelletier and her husband Paul, Kim (Everett) Lajoie and her husband Kevin, and Kelly Everett, all of Vernon; four great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Renee Lajoie, Connor Joseph Lajoie, Kyle Joseph Pelletier and Alex Christopher Pelletier; a son-in-law, Ernest Everett of Vernon; a sister-in-law, Katheryn Mikalauskas of Ellington; a sister-in-law, Freda Mikalauskas of New Britain; and a special friend, Irene Lynch of Enfield. She was predeceased by her daughter, Dorothy Everett, her sister and all of her brothers. Funeral service will begin Monday, September 11, at 9:30 a.m. from Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Rd., (Rte. 83), Vernon, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 80 Main Street, Manchester. Rose (Marut) Mazur, 87, of New Britain, entered into eternal rest at her home, surrounded by her family on Monday, (January 16, 2006). She was the beloved wife of Michael N. Mazur for 64 years. Born in New Britain, Mrs. Mazur was a life long city resident and a member of Holy Cross Church, New Britain, and many church organizations. She was especially involved in the Holy Cross Ladies Guild, Rosary Society, and in her youth the Children of Mary. Rose started her career as a book-keeper at New Britain Buick and after raising her children was employed by Paul's Glass, New Britain. After her retirement, Mrs. Mazur did volunteer work at Holy Cross Church where she was one of the original "Pierogi Ladies." She also volunteered at the Hospital for Special Care. Besides her husband, she leaves her loving family: son, Gregory Mazur and his wife, Catherine, of East Hampton; daughter, Ruth Kelly and her husband, Anthony of Prospect; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Mazur, of Elmwood; four grandchildren, Christopher Mazur and his wife, Leanne, Matthew Mazur, Jason Mazur, and Holley Mazur; brother, John Marut and his wife, Barbara, of Middletown; two sisters, Mary Klos, of Plainville and Barbara Rival, of Kensington; many nieces and nephews; and her devoted friend, Genevieve Bogdanski, of Rocky Hill. She was pre-deceased by a son, Ronald Mazur, and two brothers, Leo and Henry. Her funeral services will be held Wednesday, 9:45 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian burial, 10:15 a.m. a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Agnes T. Hermann 93, a life long resident of New Britain passed away Monday (October 10, 2005). She was the widow of Charles F. Hermann who passed away May 3, 1992. Agnes was born in New Britain, daughter of the late Alfred and Georgianna (Royer) Talbot. She was a member of Saint Paul Church in Kensington. She was a former member of Saint Joseph Church in New Britain, its Rosary Guild and Saint Joseph School Mothers Club. She was retired from The Burritt Mutal Saving Bank. Agnes leaves three children, Maureen Parrish of Plantsville, Thomas C. Hermann and his wife, Maureen of Southington and Peter R. Hermann and his wife, Jacqueline of Leawood, KS. Seven grandchildren, Kelly Payne, Scott Parrish, Michelle Parrish, Brian Hermann, Emily Hermann, Kevin Hermann, and David Hermann; three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 16 brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated Thursday October 13th, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Paul Church, Alling Street, Kensington. Burial will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery, New Britain. Akvilina Dalangauskas Samulis /Mother
Valerija (Jankunas) Dalangauskas, 88, of New Britain passed away Tuesday, (September 27, 2005) at the Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was born in Lithunia and came to the United States in 1949. She was the widow of Ipolitas Dalangauskas. Valerija was a midwife in Lithuania. She was a member of St Andrews Church, The Rosary Society and the former Ladies Guild. She is survived by two daughters, Akvilina Samulis of New Britain and Wanda Terrell and husband Douglas of Litchfield; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held on Saturday 9:15a.m. from the Venskunas Funeral Home, 670 Stanley St., New Britain for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St Andrews Church. Helen J. McBride, 89, of Rocky Hill, beloved wife of the late Frederick E. McBride Sr., entered eternal rest Wednesday, (June 8, 2005) at the Elm Hill Nursing Center, Rocky Hill. Born in Hartford, June 16, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Canute and Christine Jensen. Helen resided in Hartford most of her life, moving to Rocky Hill in 1989. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Rocky Hill and the Rocky Hill Seniors. Helen leaves a son, Stephen A. McBride in Dingmans Ferry, PA; a daughter, Patricia L. Sears and her husband Robert of Rocky Hill; a sister, Gladys Scrivener of Glastonbury; five grandchildren, Scott Sears and his wife Aimee, Christina Sears, Lori Davis and her husband Leon, Kelly Zuidema and her husband Brian and Shannon McBride; a devoted neighbor and friend, Barbara Hammond. She was predeceased by a son, Frederick E. McBride Jr. Helen's family would like to extend a very special thanks to the staff of Elm Hill Convalescent Home. Stephanie (Kruczek) Tullai, 87, of Little Fawn Rd., Southington, passed away on Monday (April 18, 2005) at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late William W. Tullai. Stephanie was born in Nanticoke, PA, on September 5, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine(Zrzeciak) Kruczek. She had been employed by New Britain Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide and had been a parishioner of St. Maurice Church in New Britain. Stephanie is survived by her three children, Gerald Tullai of New Britain, Kathryn Speziale of Southington and William B. Tullai of Ewing, NJ; two brothers, Charles Kruczek of New Britain and Anthony Kruczek of Pennsylvania; a sister, Mary Gapinski of Nanticoke, PA; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Stella Kroll and Jane Sokolowski, brothers, Ted and Stanley Kruczek and a grand-daughter, Stephanie Speziale. The Funeral will be held on Thursday, April 21 at 9:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Maurice Church on 100 Wightman Rd., New Britain for a mass at 10:30 a.m. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Rebecca Nevers of New Britain, passed away Tuesday, (April 12, 2005) at New Britain General Hospital. She was born in New Britain and is the daughter of Helen (Perzan) Nevers and the late Stanley Nevers. She was a 1964 graduate of New Britain High School. Rebecca lived and worked in Boston for a number of years then returned to Connecticut. She was a member of St. Johns Evangelist Church. She is survived by her mother, Helen Nevers; a sister, Roberta Nevers of New York City, NY; an aunt, Ann Smith; and two uncles, Richard and Henry Nevers and several cousins. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be private in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Barbara L. Cooley, 60, of Carbo Lane, Kensington, passed away Tuesday, (March 15, 2005) at the Masonic Home in Wallingford. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy (David) Walasewicz of New Britain. She grew up in New Britain and was a graduate of Mary Immaculate Academy. Mrs. Cooley was employed as a C.N.A. at Ledgecrest Convalescent Home in Kensington and Sherri-Cup as an inspector. Barbara was a loyal member of Saint Paul's Church, Kensington. Besides her loving and devoted husband, Robert Cooley; Barbara is survived by a daughter, Joanne Cooley of Berlin; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Steven Parker of Milwaukee, OR; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Miela Cooley of Hartford; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clifton and Sharon Cooley of Colchester, William H. and Mercedes Cooley of Raleigh, NC; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Thomas Doyle of Danbury; nine grandchildren, Ethan Renner, Summer and Seth Cioli, Joe Cooley, Steven, Elizabeth, Michael, Joshua Parker and Lyra Cooley. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 19, at Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main Street, Kensington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Paul's Church, Kensington. Natalie (Arcidiacono) Gilberto, 86, of New Britain died unexpectedly on Saturday, (June 5, 2004). She was a native and life long resident of New Britain daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanna (Bordiere) Arcidiacono and was the widow of Carl J. Gilberto. She was a member of St. Maurice Church. She was a supportive, loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Gilbetto is survived by her devoted daughters, Gloria Frost and Joan Kelsey and her son-in-law William Kelsey, all of New Britain. She was predeceased by a son-in-law Arnold Frost. Also surviving are a brother and two sisters, John Arcidiacono, Constance Bruno and Josephine Salerno and her husband Frank, all of New Britain. She also leaves four grandchildren, Gregory, Douglas and Valerie Frost and Kevin Kelsey; and four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Marion Mullin Alexander, On Tuesday, (June 1, 2004) Marion M. Alexander died at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. May God rest her soul. Marion was born in New Britain, Oct. 31, 1920, to Mary Agnes Donlan and Daniel James Mullin. She shared a 58 year marriage with George May Alexander until his death in December 1998. Marion and George were proud parents, grandparents and great grandparents. Marion was a real estate broker for many years in the New Britain area. She and her husband owned Alexander Realty in Southington. In 1976 they retired to South Kingstown, RI, where she lived until recently when she moved to Raleigh, NC to be near her daughter. Marion leaves a loving family, son Lt. Col. Ret. George Mullin Alexander, his wife, Shirley of Sun Prairie, WI; their children, Shana Lee Turner, her husband, David and her sons, Jesse, James and Jackson, of West Richland, WA; Laura Jean Alexander of Chicago, IL, and Julie Alexander Kuhn and her husband Chad of Inver Grove Heights, MN; daughter, Marion Alexander Quigg, her husband Wayne, and their children, Justin Quigg of Charlotte, NC, Matthew Quigg and his wife, Heidi of Stockbridge, GA, and Kendra Jean Quigg of Raleigh, NC; son, Lt. Col. Ret. Daniel R. Alexander and wife, Jodi of Bellevue, NE and their children, Erin and Jacqueline of the home, Erik Alexander and wife Katrin of Miami, FL, Michael Alexander of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Adam Alexander of Scottsboro, AL. She also leaves many wonderful nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass celebrating Marion's life will be at St. James Chapel, 2079 Matunuck Schoolhouse Road, Charlestown, RI, at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 5. Anna (Belas) Krzynowek, 91, of New Britain died Tuesday, (February 10, 2004) at UCONN Medical Center, Farmington. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard H. Krzynowek. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late John and Xenia (Podabinska) Belas she lived in New Britain most of her life prior to moving to Farmington 27 years ago. Anna was a member of St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She was employed by CCSU for 20 years retiring in 1974. A loving mother, she is survived by her son, Bernard J. Krzynowek; and her daughter, Christine Krzynowek both of Farmington; her sister, Helen B. Zaiko of Farmington; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, Michael and John Belas, Jr. Her funeral service will be held Friday 9:15 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain followed by service 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 54 Winter St., New Britain. Michael J. Coppe of New Britain, died Monday (December 8, 2003) in Cape Cod, MA, where he liked to spend his summers with his grandchildren and their friends. He was the widower of the late Antoinette (Pancallo) Coppe and son of the late Michael J. and Margaret (Casille) Coppe. Michael was employed by the Stanley Works for over 35 yrs before his retirement, and was a member of I.A.M. for 53 years. He was also a United States World War II army Veteran. He is survived by two sons, Michael R. Coppe of Lexington, MA and David J. Coppe and his wife, Ellen Winsor of Jamestown, RI; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Carolyn and John Coppe and several nieces and nephews.. He was predeceased by two brothers Martin and William Coppe and a sister Grace Bell. The funeral service will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday December 13, at the New Britain Memorial/Sagarino FH, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain CT. Nancy C. (Batogowski) Beique, 61, of Mobile, AL, died peacefully Wednesday, (November 12, 2003) in Hartford. She was born Oct. 27, 1942, in New Britain, the daughter of Margaret M. Batogowski and the late Stanley M. Batogowski. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Central Connecticut State College. Nancy lived in Bristol for many years, and in Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Mobile, AL, where she was a supervisor with World Omni Financial Corp. Nancy was a dedicated race walker and was training for a marathon when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Nancy loved the beach and traveling with her family and friends. She was an avid knitter and leaves her family and friends with many beautiful examples of her handiwork. Nancy is survived by her mother, Margaret Batogowski of Southington; two sisters, Jean Jones and husband Marshall of Southington, and Kathy LaPallo of Meriden; four children, Maureen Wallbeoff and husband, Jay of Coventry, Lisa Kurpit of Madison, Paul Beique of South Burlington, VT, and Michele Procaccini of Terryville. She also leaves four beloved grandchildren, Kendra, Dana, Brett and Rowan, along with many friends, including her dear friend Angela Patrick of Mobile. Margaret (Salerni) Cooley, 85, passed away peacefully
Saturday (April 19, 2003) at her home on Harrison Street, New Britain, the
Cooley family residence since Dr. Clifton Cooley began his medical practice in
1918. Margaret was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Adeline Salerni, and
the widow of Clifton Cooley Jr. For 22 years, she worked with Special Education
students in the New Britain schools, and upon her retirement, she volunteered
her services in literacy support at Lincoln School until she was 84 years old.
She was an active volunteer with the American Red Cross, the St. Maurice Rosary
Guild, and had served as both a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Margaret
delighted in time spent with her family, she took great pride in their
accomplishments...and never missed attending their performances, athletic events
or graduations. She shared her joy and talents in cooking, sewing, gardening,
and love of music and will be remembered with great fondness by all who knew
her. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Clifton and Sharon
Cooley of Colchester, Robert and Barbara Cooley of Kensington, Patricia
and Thomas Doyle of Danbury, and William and Mercedes Cooley of Cary, NC.
Margaret was the devoted grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 16 great
grandchildren, and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be
held Tuesday, April 22, 9 a.m. from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin Sq.,
New Britain, going to St. Maurice Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will
be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Friends may
call at the funeral home, Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to either Hospice of Central CT, the Huntington
Disease Society of CT, or to the Hanahoe Children's Clinic of Danbury.

Aurore (Perusse) Rouleau 89, of New Britain passed away on
Thursday, (March 27, 2003). She was the beloved wife of the late J. Fernand
Rouleau. She was born July 6, 1913 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, to the late
Urbain and Roseanna Daigle Perusse. She was a New Britain resident for the past
70 years. She was a member of St. Jerome Church. She is survived by four
daughters and sons-in-law, Rita and Aime Brochu of New Britain, Cecile and
Roland Beauchemin of Cromwell, Irene and Stanley Misiorski of Dale City, VA and Jeannette
and William Krans of Brookfield, MA; a son Jerry Rouleau of Hanover, NH; a
son-in-law and wife, Fernand and Laura Brochu of Berlin. She will be dearly
missed by her 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren and one great-great
grandchild. She also leaves three sisters, Simone Demers of Montreal, Cecile and
husband, Leon Gaudreau and Lucienne Hetu of Sherbrooke. Besides her husband, she
was predeceased by a daughter, Rejeanne Brochu, a daughter-in-law, Janice
Rouleau, a grandson, Paul Beauchemin; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In her later
years she enjoyed painting and being with her family. Funeral services will be
Monday, March 31, 9:15 a.m. from the Kenney-Luddy Funeral Home at 205 South Main
Street, New Britain, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Jerome
Church, New Britain. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britian. The
family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, March 30, from 4-8 p.m. at
the Kenney-Luddy Funeral Home. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to St.
Jerome Church. Mrs. Rouleau's family wishes to extend a special thanks to the
staff of the Alzheimer's Unit at Brittany Farms for the special care and love
given to Mrs. Rouleau.

Bertha (Shivok) Matera, 90, wife of the late Joseph J.
Matera, formerly of Myrtle Drive, Norwich, died on Tuesday evening (March 18,
2003) at Norwichtown Rehabilitation Center. Born in New Britain on October 28,
1912, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Agatha (Petrowsky) Shivok. She
was last employed in the parts department of Skinners Mfg. Co. of New Britain.
In 1937 at St. Ann Church in New Britain, she was united in marriage to Joseph
J. Matera who died November 3, 1989. Surviving are two sons, Rev. Frank Matera
Professor of Biblical Studies at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and Joseph
F. Matera and his wife, Lois of Oakdale; two grandchildren, Michael and
Susan Matera; two great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Covalesky of Newington;
and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Adam Shivok;
and a sister, Anna Shivok. Visitation TODAY, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Labenski
Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, where the funeral will assemble on
Friday at 9 a.m. and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the
Lakes Church, Route 82, Salem, at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. in
St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.

Frank J. Marietta age 91 of New Britain passed away Monday
(March 3,2003).He was the widower of Marie (Bonola) Marietta. Frank was born in
Vineland NJ. Son of the late Salvatore and Susan (Ruggerio) Maietta. He lived
most of his life in New Britain. He was a member of St. Ann Church. He was
employed in the maintenance dept. of Central Connecticut State University for 47
years. He had been in the Physical Education and Athletic Department. Frank has
long been known in the sports world having played semi pro basketball with the
Panthers, a New Britain town team early in his youth. On a number of occasions
his contributions to the Central Campus (CCSU) have been noted. The Class of
1956 dedicated the yearbook to him and the Class of 1959 remembered him with a
appreciation page. In 1987 he was honored as the VFW Sportsman of the Year in
New Britain. In 1982, he was elected to the Central Alumni's Athletic hall of
fame. A popular figure on the Central Campus, Frank has had a street named for
him -Frank Marietta Drive- on the Campus of Central. Former student-athletes and
coaches at the athletic functions and banquets had always recognized Frank. A
former basketball player in the New Britain Industrial League, Frank became one
of the area's top referees and in 1976 he earned honorary life member status
from Central Connecticut Board No 6 of Approved Basketball Officials. In 1996 he
was honored by the Connecticut Sports Writers Alliance with the 'Good Sport'
Award. On February 18, 1978 during the half time of the thrilling Central upset
over the University of Maine many friends, coworkers and people across the state
came to honor him and to celebrate a special night. He was given a trip to
Europe with the Alumni Association. Frank is survived by a son, Richard E
Marietta and his wife Pauline of Southington. A daughter Maureen M. Hermann
and her husband Thomas C. also of Southington. A sister Rose Kozuch of
Kensington. Four grandchildren Monica Marietta of Southington, Meredith Marietta
Eisenberg and her husband Todd Eisenberg of Colchester Kelly Ann Payne and her
husband Wyatt Payne of Jackson Beach FL. and Michael Marietta and his wife
Jennifer of Wallingford. Two great grandchildren Aryenna and Cody Marietta. He
was predeceased by a sister Frances Marietta and a brother Louis Marietta. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at Saint Ann Church, North Street,
New Britain, Friday March 7. At 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery,
New Britain. Friends may call at the Kenney-Luddy Funeral Home, 205 South Main
Street, New Britain, Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be

James P. Lettieri, 27, of West Simsbury, son of Paul L. and Kathleen (Goulet) Lettieri of West Simsbury, died Tuesday, (January 28,
2003) in State College, PA. He was born October 19, 1975 in Manchester and moved
to Simsbury when he was two years old. James attended St. Mary's School in
Simsbury, was a graduate of Simsbury High School, class of 1993, the University
of Michigan, class of 1997 and received his PhD at Pennsylvania State University
in 2002. Besides his parents, he is survived by two brothers and a
sister-in-law, William Lettieri of West Simsbury and Paul A. Lettieri and
Gretchen Short of Long Beach, CA; a nephew, Ryan C. Lettieri of Long Beach, CA;
his maternal grandmother, Margaret (Baker) Goulet of South Windsor; his paternal
grandmother, Josephine (Zukoski) Lettieri of Hartford; two aunts, Margaret (Goulet)
Pulito and her husband, Brian of West Hartford, and Suzy Goulet of Los Angeles,
CA; an uncle, Ralph Lettieri of Manchester; and cousins, Brian Lettieri, Steven

Stanislawa “Stella” (Majewski) Brzozowy, 88,
formerly of New Britain, died peacefully September 4, 2002 at Ridgeview
Treatment Center, Cromwell. She was the wife of the late Stanislaw (Stanley)
“Stas” Brzozowy. Born in Superior, Wisconsin, on August 21, 1914 daughter of
the late Ignacy and Jozefa (Krauza) Majewski, she moved to Poland with her
family when she was 7 years old and was a New Britain resident for the past 50
years. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, New Britain. Mrs. Brzozowy
co-owned and operated, with her husband, Stas’ Market, Washington St., New
Britain for many years and also worked at LaRosa’s Bakery, New Britain for
twenty years before retiring at age 74. She was a member of the Holy Cross
Church Rosary Society and the Polish National Alliance. She leaves her son, Jan
Brzozowy, and her daughter and son-in-law, Stella B. and Robert E. Heyl,
both of New Britain. She was “Babci” to her four grandchildren, her grandson,
Kelsey Heyl; her granddaughters, Sally, Keri Lynn, and Amanda Brzozowy. She
also leaves five nieces and a nephew, Irene Michewicz Testani, Veronica Brzozowy
Kopcyk, Maria Dawid Grzeszczyk, Estelle Smierciak, Janina in Poland, and
Edward Michewicz, as well as grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces,
and great grand nephews and her former daughter-in-law, Martha Lynn
Engel;. She was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters, Jan Bazmierowski,
Jozef Majewski, Wladyslawa “Lottie” Michewicz, and a sister, Jadwiga in
Poland. “Babci” loved pinochle, poetry, mystery books, puzzles and her
kitties. Her funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:15 a.m. from the Burritt
Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, followed by a Mass of Christian
burial,10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Interment will be private and at the

John J. King, 89, of Wells St,
Hartford, died Thursday, (August 15, 2002) at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY,
June 22, 1913, son of the late John J. and Julia V. (O'Connell) King. He was
educated in parochial grammar and high schools in Brooklyn, NY and was a
graduate of Cooper Union in New York City in 1939, receiving his bachelors
degree in Civil Engineering. In 1950 he received his masters degree in Civil
Engineering from NYU. He enlisted in the US Army Reserves, 77th Division in New
York in 1940. He was promoted to 2nd Lt. in 1941. During World War II he served
with the 88th Infantry Division in Italy, was wounded in action in October 1944
and received the Purple Heart, he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in
June 1944 and the Distinguished Service Cross in October 1944. He then returned
to the 77th division until 1958 and was then transferred to the 76th division in
Connecticut, retiring in 1969 as Brigadier General and assistant division
commander. General King was employed by The George A Fuller Co. of New York City
from 1946 until 1971, retiring with position of Vice President. During his
construction career in Hartford he had responsibility for several landmark
projects including, The Cathedral of St. Joseph, three large projects with the
Aetna Life Insurance Co., three large projects with the Travelers Insurance Co.,
The Phoenix Life Insurance building, The Hartford National Bank Building,
Trinity College South Campus Building, The Bliss Wing at Hartford Hospital, and
the major projects with Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford. From 1971
until 1978 he served as the Vice President for the Horn Construction Co. ending
his building career in 1978. He was a longtime devout communicant at the
Cathedral of St. Joseph, a member of The Hartford Club, The Hundred Club of
Connecticut, Retired Officers Association, Charter Oak Chapter, St Vincent De
Paul Society, The National Society of Professional Engineers and a member of the
Newcomer Society. On August 30, 1941 he married Mary M. Curry in Bronx, NY. He
is survived by his three children Robert and his wife Kathleen, John and
his wife Marilyn and Paul and his wife Stephanie; his five grandchildren John,
Geoffrey, Gregory, Shannon and Rebecca; and five great-grandchildren Ryan,
Patrick, Jack, Hannah and Abigail. General King was recently predeceased by his
beloved daughter Joan. Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 180
Farmington Ave., Hartford, Sunday August 18, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral procession
from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Monday, August 19, at 9:15 a.m., followed by

military honors will be in the family plot in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery.

Joan Marie King, 59, of
Washington D.C. died Tuesday, (July 2, 2002) in Sibley Hospital, Washington D.C.
She was born July 30, 1943, in Bronx, NY, the only daughter of John and Mary
(Curry) King of Hartford. She was a graduate of Mt. St. Joseph Academy class of
1961 and a graduate of St. Joseph College class of 1965. Joan was employed at
the Department for Professional Employees of the A.F.L.CIO for 25 years. She
lived in the Washington area for over 30 years, where she was the director of
the Music Ministry at St. Dominic Church. Besides her parents, Joan is survived
by her three brothers, Robert J. King of Manchester, John F. King of
Teaneck, NJ and Paul E. King of New York, NY; five nieces and nephews and five

Rita (McCabe) Heath, 85,
of New Britain, wife of the late James J. Heath, died Wednesday, (September 5,
2001) at New Britain General Hospital after a short illness. Rita was born on
June 3, 1916 to James and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) McCabe. She attended local
schools and graduated from New Britain High School. She was retired from the New
Britain Board of Education. She was a charter member of St. Maurice Church, a
member of AARP, the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary, the Catholic Daughters of
America. Rita is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Ann and
Bruce Anderson of St. Louis, MO, Mary Beth and John Wilbur of Gilford and
Margaret and Daniel Heath-Ringrose of Unionville; six grandchildren,
Christopher, Carrie and Mark Anderson, John Wilbur, James and Thomas Heath-Ringrose;
two great grandchildren, Christopher and Caroline; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by four brothers James, Joseph, Charles and John McCabe; a
sister, Anna Zarecki. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m.,
Saturday, September 8, St. Maurice Church, Wightman Rd., New Britain. Burial

Mary Alice (Mangan) Scully, 86, died peacefully at home on Thursday, (January
20, 2000). Born February 15, 1913 in New Britain, where she resided until 1988.
She then moved to Niantic, and lived with her son Patrick. She was a communicant
of St. Agnes Church in Niantic. Mrs. Scully was the widow of prominent New
Britain physician Roger T. Scully, who died in 1982. She was the daughter of
long term New Britain Judge of Probate William F. Mangan and Laura (Pritchard)
Mangan. Mrs. Scully was a graduate of New Britain High School and Manhattanville
College, Purchase, NY, where she excelled in poetry and sports. After college,
she taught English in the New Britain schools. Mrs. Scully was predeceased by
her son, Richard in 1962. She was the beloved mother of her six remaining
children and their spouses, Alicia and Roger Desrosier of Hamden, MA, Patrick
B. Scully of Niantic, Mary Alice and Theodore C. Caldes of Nassau, NY,
Rosaleen and Eugene Farley of Slingerlands, NY, Roger T.Scully,Jr. and Diane of
Niantic, and Honora and Matthew J. McDonough, III of South Hadley, MA. In
addition, she leaves 12 grandchildren, Tehan, Michelle and Jennifer Desrosier
and Maria Desrosier Barnes, Sarah, Laura and Patrick Farley, Roger and Annie
Scully, and Matthew, William and Nora McDonough. Mrs. Scully is also survived by
her sisters, Patricia Walsh, Alicia Bennett, Katrine Woods, and Laura Gildea;
and brother, William Mangan; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will
be held Monday, Jan. 24, 9:30 a.m., from the Farrell Funeral Home, 110 Franklin
Sq., New Britain with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph's
Church New Britain. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.

McVeigh, died Thursday, (November 18, 1999) at Avery Heights. Born in New Britain, she had lived there for 21 years before moving to Hartford. She was a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Class of 1964, and of the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1967. She had been employed by New Britain General Hospital as a registered nurse for 33 years. She was a member of the North Yard at Deep River Marina and a long time vacationer of Point of Woods, Old Lyme. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves two sons and a daughter-in-law, Christopher Sean and Marlene Francis of Newington; and Timothy Sean Francis of Hartford; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Shelby Francis, both of Newington; two brothers, James McVeigh of Newington; and Kevin and his wife Candice McVeigh of Windsor; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and her husband Donald Francis of Rocky Hill; Elizabeth and her husband Paul Backshall of Tortola, BVI; and Rosemary "Dina" and her husband Patrick Johnson of Columbia; also leaving her mother-in-law, Mrs. Benjamin Francis of Glastonbury; brother-in-law, John V. and his wife Patricia Francis of Rocky Hill; a sister-in-law, Joanne and her husband Charles Powell of Berlin; twelve nephews, three nieces and an uncle, Carl Johnson of New Britain. Stella A. Niedbala of New Britain died Friday. She was 84. She was a lifelong New Britain resident and a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Britain. Mrs. Niedbala is survived by a daughter, Joanne Niedbala of New Britain; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Suzanne Niedbala of Cromwell; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
